More than four-fifths of organizations allow employees to work remotely following lockdown

As many as 82percent of companies intend to allow remote working some of their time as workers return to the workplace following lockdown, according to research from Gartner.

The analyst surveyed 127 company leaders representing HR, legal and compliance, finance and property on 5 June 2020, and almost half (47percent ) stated they plan to permit employees to work remotely full-time moving forward. For many companies, flexi-time is going to be the new standard as 43percent of respondents reported that they are going to grant workers flexible working times, whereas 42percent will offer flexible hours.

“The Covid-19 outbreak caused a massive experiment in prevalent remote working,” said Elisabeth Joyce, vice president of advisory at the Gartner HR clinic.

“As business leaders plan and implement reopening of the offices, they’re assessing more permanent remote working arrangements as a means to satisfy employee expectations and also to build more resilient small business operations.”

Organisations welcoming workers back to the business workplace are instituting an assortment of safety measures. Respondents were virtually unanimous in planning to restrict face meetings (94percent ) and supplying protective gear such as sprays and hands sanitiser (91percent ). Eighty-three percentage of respondents stated that they intend to restrict or sequence employee presence in the workplace.

“The issue currently facing many businesses isn’t how to control a remote work force, but the way to control a more complex, hybrid work force,” said Joyce. “While remote function is not new, the level of distant work moving ahead will change how folks work with each other to get their job done.”

Gartner noted that since companies move toward a hybrid work force, the productivity of remote workers is a frequent subject of conversation. But only 13percent of business leaders expressed worries over sustaining growth. Even though 61percent of business leaders surveyed have executed more regular manager-employee check-ins, 29% record not taking any steps to track productivity .

One of the challenges of handling a hybrid workforce demonstrated by the analysis, 30percent of company leaders are concerned with keeping corporate culture. Thirteen percent of respondents reported concern over making parity between the distant and in-office expertise; 13% are worried about supplying what had been described as a”seamless worker encounter”.

“It’s essential that companies obtain their company culture and employee expertise right during this age of doubt,” explained Brian Kropp, chief of research for the Gartner HR clinic. “Both aspects help ensure organisations get the financial, reputation and ability results which will drive business results and competitive edge.”
