Tiger Woods plagued by placing woes yet again in PGA Championship

SAN FRANCISCO — Placing issues repeatedly plagued Tiger Woods in the PGA Championship on Saturday, leaving him well off the pace in TPC Harding Park and appearing at another ancient tee time for its last round.

Were it not for a late spark which eventually saw some putts fall, Woods would have been to get a dreadful moment. He was able to hit only 4 14 fairways and required 31 putts, but birdied two of the last 3 holes to take 2-over-par 72.

“I did not create anything ancient,” Woods explained. “I had a few chances to generate a few putts and did not. They had been burning borders. I had a few lip-outs, and only nothing really great going. Much like yesterday. I simply didn’t get anything going, and had to claw and struggle to receive back my way, and did not actually get anything going until the past couple of holes.”

Woods, 44, didn’t blame the putter because of his or her fears. Much was created early in the week about his turn to another variant of the Scotty Cameron version he’s used for the majority of his livelihood.

However, this was about the Harding Park greens, their lack of rate — to him and his inability to correct.

For a moment, it appeared Woods could place his initial birdie-free around in a significant tournament since the very first round of this 2010 U.S. Open in Pebble Beach. He failed to make a birdie at the last round of this 2018 Wells Fargo Championship, a period of 29 tournaments.

And Woods was not getting the ball in play, possibly. He overlooked numerous fairways into the proper, and it is hard to create birdie chances from the demanding. He finally wrapped in an 15-footer for birdie in the 16th hole then struck a wonderful approach to five feet in the 18th to get a second. He had five one-putts in his final seven holes later needing 17 putts on the front nine.

“I certainly did not hit them hard enough, that is for certain,” he explained. “Again, the putting green is somewhat quicker than the golf course, and I made sure I hit lots of uphill putts to be certain I attempt to counter that moving out there. I simply didn’t trust it.”

Say what you may about Woods’ lack of preparation — that is only his second event from nine after the PGA Tour’s restart on account of this coronavirus pandemic shutdown. He tied for 40past previous month in the Memorial Tournament — he had placing problems — also will have work to do to better that end here.

During his career, Woods has fought when he can not get comfy on greens which are slower than that he favors. It is one of the reasons he left the putter change, and it’s resulted in other alterations sometimes.

Others problems may be a result of absence of competition. He is not hitting fairways (only four to Saturday) nor greens (12) and can be out the shirt 50 in strokes obtained the tee off and strokes obtained tee to green.

He’s an additional round to attempt and work out a number of these difficulties.

“daily and we have yet another significant championship to perform and prepare for the [FedEx Cup] playoffs and we’ve got the U.S. Open then,” he explained. “We’ve got some huge events to be performed, and hopefully I will take something in the crimson and get it under par for the championship, and hopefully I could do this.”

as soon as the shutdown happened, Woods had been 28th in FedEx Cup points. He’s now 48th and planned to complete 49th. To be able to be eligible for the Tour Championship in Atlanta, he wants to be one of the best 30 after the BMW Championship, the next of those three playoff events.

Meaning that he faces the chance of playing with three straight championships if he wishes to make enough points to reach Atlanta. The first playoff occasion is that the Northern Trust, which starts Aug. 20.
