The U.S. Open is coming to NBC beginning this season in Winged Foot following Fox Sports has requested to finish its 12-year contract with the USGA, multiple individuals told The Associated Press on Sunday night.
Three individuals with direct knowledge of the change say that it came together from the previous two weeks. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t yet been declared.
A statement was expected Monday.
The U.S. Open, initially scheduled to be performed last week, was postponed to Sept. 17-20 at Winged Foot in New York if the COVID-19 pandemic let no golfing championships for three weeks.
NBC televised the U.S. Open from 1995 before the USGA signed a 12-year deal with Fox Sports that started in 2015.
One individual said Comcast-owned NBC would pick up the last seven decades of this contract via 2026.
The shift means NBC will possess the U.S. Open and the British Open, combined with three World Golf Championships, the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup along with the FedEx Cup playoffs each year.
