Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez headed a Spanish fee from the European Tour’s most recent stop in England, shooting a course-record 10-below 62 at the opening round of this Hero Open on Thursday.
Garcia Rodriguez set the speed in the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel and Country Club course using a round that included two eagles and eight birdies.
The 31-year old hurried to the turn 29 together with five birdies and an eagle and although he bogeyed the 10th, he reacted with birdies on the 13th and 14th and ended eagle-birdie following a dropped shot on the 16th.
“For me personally it is amazing,” Garcia Rodriguez stated. “I had been so near the hole the entire time, the irons were so amazing and it is remarkable. It is my fantasy all the opportunity to be about the European Tour and it is my initial score.”
Fellow Spaniards Pablo Larrazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez completed with a share of second place two shots .
Jimenez, 56, who made his first start in the 1983 Benson and Hedges Spanish Open and is enjoying with his album 707th European Tour look, was greeted with applauding players once he touched the green onto the 18th hole.
“It has been a fantastic day,” said Jimenez, who paired Sam Torrance’s previous record of 706 in last week’s British Masters.
“Eight under level with a gorgeous summer day and particularly today about the 18th here with my coworkers clapping for mepersonally, it is psychological. I love that very much. A number of them are brand new players, some I have known for several decades. It was really pleasant, really emotive.
“I like all about my life . This is a means of living; it isn’t just about business, it is a means of living and golf is my own entire life. You never recall any dull moments”
Oliver Farr of Wales was another shot back in fourth after completing his first round with a 7-under 65 with England’s Ashley Chesters and Danish adolescent Rasmus Hojgaard a stroke further back.
Scotland’s David Drysdale carded a one-over-par 73 on his 500th European Tour begin.
