France’s Ligue 1 was among those championships which weren’t finished, but playing to the decision to not proceed with the award.
Lewandowski has scored 51 goals in all competitions in the best period of his career, assisting Bayern to win the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, even though a treble bid stays very much alive in the Champions League.
Rummenigge believes he’d have been a worthy Ballon d’Or winner.

“Regrettably, France Football cancelled the Ballon d’Or, which we aren’t so pleased [about]. In the long run, it is not too fair – not only for Bayern but also for Robert Lewandowski, who’ve won.
“I feel it is very significant in a season , except that the French league, [were] performed through the close of the year, it needs to be possible to provide the Ballon d’Or into the best footballer on the planet.
“Obviously, I think, in these conditions, Robert would have a fantastic opportunity to win it for the very first time in his profession.”
Bayern trainer Hansi Flick considers that Lewandowski will be in contention this year.
“Should I measure for targets today and I see he has scored 34 targets in the Bundesliga this calendar year, then it’s possible to consider the way the participant from the Bundesliga can develop into the Ballon d’Or winner. Why not?” Flick stated previously this month.
