The Blaugrana didn’t conduct a smear campaign to defend the club president, an investigation has discovered.
An investigation into Barcelona’s connection with I3 Ventures has decided that the club failed to run a smear campaign against third parties.
Barca’s arrangement with PR firm I3 ventures came under scrutiny in February next asserts the company was hired to wash up bar president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s picture on social networking and disparage present and previous players critical of his regime.
The two Barca and I3 Ventures denied the allegations and also a report after an audit conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) discovered that the team didn’t run”any defamatory campaigns” against any person.
Summarising the report findings in their official site, Barca wrote that”the contracting of different services associated with observation and evaluation of social networks on behalf of FC Barcelona didn’t incorporate any defamatory campaigns aimed at third parties”
PwC also found no signs of corrupt financial behavior and decided the cost paid by Barca I3 Ventures’ solutions was”within market range”.
Reacting to the report’s findings, Barca stated:”The Board of Directors teaches the Club’s legal solutions to keep and, if necessary, bring the applicable legal actions against people who have made untrue and unfounded accusations which have severely violated the institution’s picture and people who form a part of it.
“The contents of the report, and its decisions, will be also be brought forward in these proceedings launched from the Club according to alleged intermittent behaviour this document explains and denies.”
It has been a challenging period for Barcelona on the pitch too, together with the team monitoring Real Madrid from the La Liga title race by four points with four games remaining.
