Sangakkara, Jayawardene predicted up in investigation to 2011 World Cup final

Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Aravinda de Silva and Upul Tharanga have been summoned to appear before a special investigations unit set up by Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry, over allegations of match-fixing from the 2011 World Cup closing. The allegations were made by Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who had been the sports ministry at the moment, also is looking for re-election in parliamentary polls each month.

Though Aluthgamage has promised he is in possession of proof which fixing happened, nothing substantial was made public. The ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) hasn’t said the closing was under distress either. A senior ICC official in the time has advised ESPNcricinfo which they don’t remember having received any complaints regarding potential corruption in this game. And a senior official in the championship committee has also affirmed to ESPNcricinfo that no criticism linked to corruption was filed regarding this match.

Broadly, Aluthgamage’s allegations seem to be roughly the four changes Sri Lanka created for their XI for the closing. But, Sangakkara (who had been captain), Jayawardene (who had been vice-captain) and de Silva (who had been primary selector) have repeatedly stated that those changes had been precipitated by injuries to two players – Angelo Mathews and Muttiah Muralitharan – continued throughout the semi-final. Muralitharan managed to perform the last, but has since said he’d not been completely fit. Mathews, meanwhile, was the participant who provided balance to the XI, along with his departure from the side would be thought to have altered the batsmen/bowler makeup that Sri Lanka was utilizing for much of this World Cup.

The sport ministry could muster these players prior to a special investigations unit is a result of the”Prevention of offences linked to sports action”, which was passed last year with the intent of controlling fixing. The ICC’s ACU is known to have worked closely with the Sri Lankan government through the drafting of the bill.

De Silva had given evidence prior to the investigations unit Tuesday, while Tharanga had seemed prior to the device on Wednesday. Sangakkara and Jayawardene will make their looks both side of the weekend.
