Facebook has declared it will prohibit new political commercials on its own stage in the week prior to the 2016 US Presidential election.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg claims the movement is part of an initiative to promote voting, restrict misinformation and lessen the danger of post-election”civil unrest”.
“This election isn’t likely to be business as normal,” Zuckerberg said at a post.
“All of us have a duty to safeguard our democracy. This means helping people register and voteclearing up confusion about the way this election will probably operate, and taking measures to decrease the odds of violence and unrest.”
Facebook has also moved to stop candidates and fans from claiming victory in the election outcome. If a user attempts to post before all outcomes are understood, readers will likely be redirected to a connection of their official outcomes.
The societal networking giant has further restricted the sharing of posts on Messenger discussion to stop bogus information posts from moving viral.
