Surat pedals green studying ‘Cyclology’ in school program | Surat News


Surat: Diamond City is developing a new standard in green learning using its revolutionary strategy to encourage cycling among young kids. To pedal up its attempts, the civic body has formed a path’Cyclology’, which has been taught to pupils through e-learning, to enlist young minds to wash surroundings notions.
Already two colleges have begun teaching it within the pilot project, and also the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) aims to replicate in most of its municipal colleges.
‘Cyclology’ has been educated in Class III and IV of RSM Experimental and CC Shah School in the first stage. The program is devised by BYCS, an Amsterdam-based social venture that functions to promote biking, Sarvajanik Education Society (SES) and Nature Club Surat (NCS).
An initiative under SMC’s’Cycle4Change Challenge’, the topic is a 10-hour program, novels of that have been printed in Gujarati, Hindi and English that is dispersed among pupils after colleges reopen.
Eminent theater character and Padma Shree awardee, Yazdi Karanjia, who’s called a passionate cyclist at 83 years old, lauched teh program.
‘Bicycle mayor’ of town, Sunil Jain, told TOI,”The supplemental class will be taught to kids from Class III to VIII. Different modifications will be made to the path throughout the pilot projects. At the moment the program is introduced in 2 colleges, which is dispersed to schools after it’s finalised.”
Pupils will be educated history of bike, traffic rules together with ecological, health, social and fiscal benefits in the program.
“No other town throughout the nation has’biking’ as a subject in universities. We’ll clarify the value of cycling to kids through stories, poems and practical classes as part of surroundings learning. With advancements in the program, and help of the education section, we’ll present it to all colleges,” said Kamlesh Yagnik, chairman of SES.
“Cycling isn’t popular among kids nowadays. Educating biking for a topic in schools is among many theories we’re working to encourage cycling in town. If we educate them kids will create a dependence on life,” stated Rajesh Pandya, deputy municipal commissioner, SMC.
