Surat: The Surat city authorities have gathered Rs 2. 35 crore nice from individuals captured with no mask because June 20. A total of 1. 17 lakh people are penalised for the offence which brought a fine of Rs 200.
But from Saturday the nice amount was increased to Rs 500, for more rigorous implementation of the authorities arrangement. Apart from civic body officials, cops also have been authorised to accumulate fine from people not wearing masks.
Since June, authorities have been assessing commuters on two-wheelers and automobiles for masks. People found without masks are requested to pay the fine immediately.
Those needing to pay the fine were earmarked for breach of government arrangement issued and neglect which could disperse Covid-19 disease.
“Strict vigil was retained on town streets to make sure that individuals wear masks. After rigorous police action for more than a month, the team involved with the execution have verified that a lesser amount of individuals are currently moving with no mask,” said city police commissioner R B Brahmbhatt.
With fresh unlock period beginning from Saturday, nighttime curfew was lifted. Therefore, police installation for nighttime curfew is going to be removed. However, the installation of cops in big containment zones will probably continue just as before.
“Now it’s all up to the people to act responsibly and follow social distancing standards. We’ll need to adapt to the new way of life and follow it rigorously to remain secure,” Brahmbhatt added.
