Surat: demanding lawful activities in the deaths of migrant workers who were murdered in a bus accident on Saturday close Raipur of Chhattisgarh, a Mumbai High Court attorney on Monday approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to do against road transportation department officials of Surat and Bhanjanagar at Odisha.
Demanding action too contrary to the district government in Ganjam district in Odisha, the attorney declared that the bus didn’t have a fitness certification and other compulsory papers. In addition, he demanded Rs 20 lakh compensation to the kin of every dead person and Rs 5 lakh to hurt.
Srikant Padhi, a lawyer and president of Rashtriya Oriya Yuvak Pratishthan, registered an internet program and his program was admitted. Padhi has raised numerous issues regarding Odia migrant employees previously too.
“The bus has been sent by companies of their migrant workers from Surat to deliver the labourers back from Ganjam district. The bus crashed in another automobile near Raipur and seven individuals got killed,” Padhi told TOI.
“It had been discovered through evaluation by local police in Chhattisgarh the bus didn’t have a fitness certification. It died on May 7, 2019, its own insurance had died on September 25, 2019 and street tax was composed to September 30, 2018,” explained Padhi.
Padhi has alleged that the bus had been taking over 70 passengers that is over its permissible limits. “I’ve demanded legal actions contrary to all of the government concerned in Surat, Bhanjanagar and Ganjam district,” Padhi added.
Over 4 lakh Odiya migrants are used in town, majority of these working in fabric weaving units. “Just 1.5 lakh employees exist in town that’s the reason why almost 5 lakh electricity milling machines are lying idle. In lack of trains, employees are risking lives by travelling in buses,” explained Ashok Jirawala, president of Federation of Gujarat Weavers Welfare Association (FOGWA).
