Nagpur: Rajat Thakur, the alleged mastermind in at least 2 instances of honey-trapping, has managed to stay from police dragnet even following instant threat being registered from him this week for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 8 lakh from a private pharmaceutical company executive.
Thakur was reserved together with accomplice Rhea Rahangdale and others by MIDC police after complaint of this pharma executive week. He also Rahangdale were previously reserved by Sonegaon authorities for having extorted Rs 20,000 from son of a retired assistant commissioner of police. In both the scenarios, Thakur has stayed free. Rahangdale was detained by Sonegaon authorities however, for reasons best known to them Thakur wasn’t.
Zonal DCP Vivek Masaal stated directions are issued by him to get Thakur’s prior bonds bails contested for breach of these conditions. “The offences of Sonegaon and MIDC were enrolled with the initiative of authorities. Thakur couldn’t be detained in the past but that he won’t have the ability to flee for extended,” he explained.
Masaal also stated that he had been getting the call detail list of Thakur following being advised by TOI about his close relationship with the cops.
sources stated Thakur was near to a number of cops from Social Service Branch (SSB). It’s also learnt that Thakur was reserved at a situation for extorting money asserting to be on behalf of a few cops from SSB this past year in Sitabuldi police channel. He’d slipped away in the police station but later nabbed from the State Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Thakur was guarded by Wadi authorities this past year following senior officers refused to entertain a complaint from Thakur for having allegedly stolen DVR in a spot at Kachimet at which SSB had conducted a raid. Wadi authorities had refused investigation into the complaint against Thakur despite CCTV footage provided. The complainant wasn’t entertained as two cops out of SSB were captured by the ACB for malpractices. DVR also had serious proof against SSB cops, it’s learnt.
