MUMBAI/MEERUT: Dreaded gangster and Mirchi Gang kingpin Ashu Jaat, 32, who’s wanted at the murders of Noida executive Gaurav Chandel and also Hapur-based BJP leader Rakesh Sharma, has been detained by a joint group of Hapur authorities and Mumbai crime branch by Mumbai’s Jogeshwari place on Saturday.
Carrying a bounty of Rs 2.5 lakh, Ashu — who’s on the very top of Uttar Pradesh‘s most wanted list with almost 40 instances of murder, kidnapping, loot and thieving filed against him was selling fruits beneath disguise in Mumbai.
Ashu taken to infamy if his name cropped up at the magnificent Chandel murder situation at Noida in January. A regional director with a health care company in Gurgaon, Chandel was found murdered on the service road involving Parthala and Gaur City at Noida on January 7. Afterwards, authorities impounded Chandel’s stolen SUV from Ghaziabad’s Akash Nagar.
While Hapur authorities had earlier detained his wife Poonam along with another gang members, Ashu feared he could be killed in a police encounter since UP Authorities’s STF was on his path. He slipped into Mumbai, chose a rented room in Vile Parle, changed his appearance by growing a beard and chose to selling veggies, authorities said.
but a slight mistake of calling his partner at UP paved the way for his arrest.
“UP authorities had shared data which Ashu Jaat was staying here. Together with the tip-off, offense division (unit XI) Agency Sunil Mane and sub-inspector Sharad Zine and employees posed as sellers for three times prior to nabbing him,” explained Mumbai deputy commissioner of police (crime) Akbar Pathan.
Mane stated it was a Herculean job since the accused had switched off his mobile phone and lived a regular life selling veggies in Irla Market. “UP authorities had sent his older photos, but he seems different today, with long beard and hair. So, it was hard to spot him. Our crew presented as BMC officials and obtained near him. After we made sure that he was exactly the same offender, we took precautions and picked him up,” additional Mane.
Confirming the arrest, Hapur superintendent of police (SP) Sanjiv Suman stated,”Responding to an alarm, a Hapur police group had visited Mumbai looking for him ten days past. They detained him on Saturday morning.”
According to senior police officers, Ashu will be attracted to Hapur on transit remand on Sunday.
Ashu together with his brother Bholu, authorities said, led a group of over 25 associates, desired by Noida, Ghaziabad and Hapur authorities for instances of snatching, robberies and contract killings. Sources said the gang got its title’Mirchi’ because of their modus operandi of hurling chilli flakes into the opinion of commuters and robbing them. Authorities said his wife Poonam was able to assist the gang get arms while Ashu never taken a cell phone when committing any offense.
Based on UP STF, Ashu had a narrow escape in October last when four members of his group had been detained after an experience with Hapur authorities, while he and a few of his aides Rahul had escaped.
