Ludhiana: Following the steering committee of this country excise and taxation officials didn’t get any answer to their requirement for obtaining a departmental inquiry rather than vigilance agency (VB) evaluation from their coworkers, the Punjab officials have moved in an indefinite strike from Wednesday.
Because of the lack of those officers of positions from inspector to further commissioners because Monday and no clarity on when they’d restart function, members of gangs involved with illegal movement of products by evading tax is likely to make hay. Illicit liquor traders also might have a free run. In any case, various functions of tax professionals and payers also have been held up as no official has been available from the section to solve their problems.
Chief Union Captain Amarinder Singh, who holds the portfolio of excise and taxation, hasn’t responded to their needs. A senior officer of the division advised that the TOI,”The government is facing a massive revenue loss. Each hour tax has been dropped and all of the anti-tax evasion and anti-liquor mafia surgeries are jeopardised due to our lack. But we’ve been forced to take the extreme measure due to the continuing situation. We work night and day in odd hours for government earnings and this is the way we’re being treated. Officers are being endangered and even detained. We’re not against actions on unethical officials. Previously as well action was taken against corrupt officers and nobody stood together as there was considerable evidence. In the current scenario, several officials are appointed in cases with no evidence and so a departmental inquiry ought to be maintained and VB FIRs be cancelled”
Another officer stated,”The CM along with other senior officers are apprised of the activities taken contrary to our officers from the VB, including registration of FIRs on solid floor, arrests of officers, along with raids in their homes. However, as no action was taken on our needs, we’re left with no other choice than going on indefinite strike”
A senior officer of the department stated,”Everybody in the department is feeling dangerous. Our struggle will continue until the matter is addressed”
