KOLKATA: All country government offices at West Bengal will stay closed on Tuesday as a sign of respect to former President Pranab Mukherjee who perished in New Delhi, the state Home Department stated here. If his funeral doesn’t occur on Tuesday, the offices will also stay closed on the afternoon when it’ll occur, the division said on Monday.
The state authorities also postponed its Police Day programme intended for Tuesday with a week and it is going to now be held on September 8.
Mukherjee, who hailed from West Bengal, expired at Army Research and Referral Hospital at New Delhi on Monday in the time of age 84.
“As a sign of respect to the deceased spirit of former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, a glorious son of Bengal, GOWB is keeping all government and government helped institutions and offices shut elsewhere – 1st September,” the state Home Department tweeted.
“When the funeral occurs on a different day, then daily also shall be detected with comparable untoward respect. While 1st September stays Police Day, the observance will be on 8th September,” it stated.
