KOLKATA: Days following a east west Metro construction site became a containment zone following dozens of labourers working in the site were analyzed positive of Covid 19, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority, in co-ordination using a regional NGO has begun coordinating wellness check ups for labourers working at different construction sites in New Town beginning from Wednesday.
“On Wednesday, we ran medical and health check up of 80 odd labourers in a building site in New Town. Depending on the physicians’ opinions and first screening we’ve identified five labourers as suspects and are delivering their swab samples for testing,” explained Debasis Sen.
Wednesday’s screening was conducted in Rabindra Tirtha at which labourers working in an administrative construction of NKDA were analyzed. The police have identified five construction websites belonging to a personal lender, an insurance company, a private resort, an underconstruction cricket arena by AIFF and an under building faculty campus for St Xaviers University propagate across various elements of New Town.
“The notion would be to display as many persons potential in the building sites to spot vulnerable cases and examine them so to protect against the spread of this disease,” explained Samaresh Das, a senior officer of the NGO.
