KANPUR: Following invading rural landscapes, swarms of locust hurried towards commercial pockets of Kanpur early on Tuesday morning.
The district government sought police help requesting them to utilize public address system to conscious sailors requesting them to overcome drums, tin containers, utensils as well as exploding firecrackers, playing audio system, to frighten locust swarms which are assaulting residential pockets.
Residents in Khyora, Awadhpuri and Pemgaon at Bithoor awakened into some frightful sight of locust swarms flying in their rooftops and gardens on Tuesday morning.
As alerted by police patrolling teams on late Monday night about the motion of locust swarms, sailors were observed beating drums,’thalis’, playing audio system and exploding firecrackersto ward off them off.
On Sunday, the locusts assaulted the Shivrajpur region, today the swarms have moved into the city’s Khyora, Awadhpuri and Pemgaon, places lying in kachar regions of Ganga river.
The locusts had invaded town through Shuklaganj Unnao, Fatehpur and Raebareli side. Now they’ve led towards the home side of Kanpur. “The desert locusts have ruined the plants spread over a few million of hectares in the country, today they’ve entered City limits,” educated agriculture officer Uma Shankar Dwivedi.
Dwivedi and staff members left a review of these pockets in low lying regions of Ganga and fulfilled locals and conscious them.
The authorities through it’s public address system also went across influenced City localities and forced anouncement and alerted sailors to track the motion of locusts and keep their windows and doors closed to prevent it’s assault.
“This is the very first time that we’re awaring sailors around locust swarms intrusion from town. We’ve went over localities like Khyora, Awadhpuri and Pemgaon. You will find lakhs of locusts coming from Ganga’s Kachar region after crossing Unnao’s Shuklaganj,” said a police official when speaking to TOI.
