JAIPUR: Almost 30 years following two brothers, equally kar sevaks, were killed in police shooting in Ayodhya, their sister Purnima Kothari was invited into the base stone-laying service of Ram Temple.
The family, that is connected with company, spent their youth in Bikaner until they migrated into Kolkata.
On the eve of Raksha Bandhan, TOI talked to Purnima that has been supplying rakhi to both brothers — both Ram Kothari and Sharad Kothari — that had been killed in police shooting in Ayodhya on November 2, 1990, if the kar sevaks were coming after offering flags in the contested territory.
“We spent our youth in Bikaner and have many relatives . Even following 30 decades, I believe my brothers will come back and watch me,” said Purnima in choked voice when speaking to TOI over telephone from Kolkata on Sunday
On her invitation, she stated,”I’m associated with different Ram Bhakt groups and they are pleased to know that I’ve been invited to watch the base stone-laying ceremony. In addition, I think needed my brothers were living they would have surely attended the occasion,” she explained.
Recalling the episode when her brothers chose to visit Ayodhya in 1990, she stated,”I had been 19 years old when my dad first requested my brothers to not move there. My dad opined that we belong to company family so we could always donate monetarily. But, my sister Ram told my dad they must choose Lord Rama. And while my dad asked my god to return, he said he’ll accompany his sister Ram Kothari where he moves.”
Purnima was offering rakhi at the front of the photographs of her brother each year in their Kolkata-based residence. “Even following 30 years that I have complete memories of my youth and occasionally I think that my brothers have gone someplace and will return. On Rakshabandhan, I only tie rakhi to my cousins in person while to my brothers that I provide to their own photographs and apologize,” she explained.
