Several dozen people were able to swim to safety or were rescued by local inhabitants in the accident that happened near Gotra village of Dhibri Chambal region under Khatoli police station, roughly 110kilometers from Kota district headquarters.
The ship, carrying approximately 40 men, was carrying the pilgrims into Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple at Indergarh region of Bundi district once the accident happened. The passengers were from different villages in Khatoli and Itawa regions of the Kota district.
The state government has announced a relief of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased in the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The collision may have happened because of the weak structure of this ship.
The Chambal river nearby Gotra village, in which the ship capsized, is about 40-45-feet deep. The crash place lies between Bundi and Kota districts, an official said, adding that the SDRF and NDRF teams were searching for the lost three persons.
“Anguished by the capsizing of a ship in Kota, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with people who have lost their near and dear ones,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot expressed condolences to the aggrieved families. “The episode is very unfortunate and I’ve requested the government in addition to the police division to get the missing men in the earliest and also the officers to give help to the households in the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” Gehlot tweeted.
Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota-Bundi MP Om Birla also expressed his sorrow over the incident. He stated his office was in continuous touch with the district government and tracking the rescue performance.
“At least, 11 individuals are murdered in the ship accident in Khatoli. The hunt for three other men missing is penalized. But 20 individuals have been rescued,” explained Kota collector Ujjaval Rathore, including prima facie overloading and also the weak construction of the ship may have led to the mishap. A case was lodged with the authorities in this connection against the operator and owner of the ship, Rathore added.
SP Sharad Chowdhary, Kota rural, told TOI,”The rescue operation will last until we find that the remaining two figures. In remote locations, people don’t take license to operate these ships, which can be created locally and are sometimes in bad state.” After the event, the district government has decided to take inventory of the status of ships in Kota district. Officials may also inspect the ships on Thursday, supported the SP.
According to several variations by natives, the amount of individuals on the wealthy boat diverse involving 35 to 50 people. The ship was also carrying 14-15 motorbikes. Statistics of 11 of these have been recovered, said DSP and group officer Shubhkaran. They’ve been handed over to relatives following post-mortem.
The SHO of Khatoli police station has been likewise sent to police lines until further orders.
