PANAJI: Ports minister Michael Lobo on Tuesday sought to close down discussion of 2 Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLAs joining BJP. “That chapter is closed today,” he explained. But he explained that in politics, nothing is permanently shut. “If it opens (again), we’ll see,” he explained.
Talking to colleagues, Lobo reported that”individuals are always welcome throughout the front door”. He explained that if someone wants to input BJP, the choice would need to be obtained from state party president Sadanand Shet Tanavade, chief minister Pramod Sawant, also organising secretary Satish Dhond.
Lobo was responding to strong rumours within the last couple of times that Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar and Siolim MLA Vinod Paliencar desired to divide the GFP and combine BJP. Both of these, however, categorically denied any such programs.
Salgaonkar stated that the rumours were also a conspiracy to malign their picture. He added that the rumours emanated in the BJP camp, which former tourism minister Dilip Parulekar gave credence to them. Sawant and Dhond were a part of the discussions to move both MLAs into the BJP camp.
