Wild elephant tramples older woman to death | Coimbatore News


Coimbatore: A single tusker trampled a 73-year old girl to death in Varapalayam Pirivu about the outskirts of town on Tuesday morning while she was on her way to offer prayers at a nearby temple.
She was the person to eliminate life in crazy elephant strike in the Coimbatore woods division up to now this season.
Forest department officials identified the victim as V Neelavathi, of Pappanaickenpalayam near Pannimadai.
A forester stated,”She had been walking into the temple around Pannimadai-Thadagam street around 5. 30am. When she neared a banana farm, that was a bit more than 1km from the book forest, the tusker assaulted her, killing her immediately.”
The officer stated the tusker was a harvest raider and the creature used to ramble across the forest fringes because there were banana and maize areas nearby.
The lifeless body has been delivered into the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The forest department has passed over a first solatium of Rs50,000 into the victim’s family.
Siva, array officer, Coimbatore woods range, stated,”We’ve got a group of frontline personnel at Varapalayam. They didn’t get any messages concerning the tusker’s motion in the region. We’d previously itself educated villagers living together the forest fringes to not venture from the homes . 30am as there’s wild elephant motion in the morning ”
He requested people to not ramble round the reserve forest region through late night and early afternoon hours. “This can help suppress man-animal conflicts and causalities thereof.”
