Coimbatore: Teachers’ unions have voiced concern over the Bharathiar University’s syndicate granting consent for five new classes in four self-financing colleges affiliated to the university.
Software for the classes were filed after the faculty development committee (CDC) meeting on January 28, 2020. Though the deadline for those software with no good was October 31, 2019, schools could employ until November 30, 2019, December 30 and January 28, 2020, together with raising fines. However, the four schools applied in March, May, and July. The syndicate assembly held last week accepted the classes and allowed self-financing schools to use for new classes till the close of the month.
Teachers’ bodies . President of the Association of University Teachers (AUT) N Pasupathy stated, for beginning a new class, schools need to apply inside October, and the university could scrutinize the campus and decide on approving and the number of chairs the course ought to possess. “If schools use overdue, where will there be the time for this? The syndicate can not alter the Act and statutes of this university. This is a severe breach,” he explained.
Agents of self-financing schools said that they were advised that program for industry-related classes and skill-related classes can be allowed and encouraged if they employ overdue. “The classes we’ve employed for are based on business tie-ups. The syndicate has also accepted it. The classes would be helpful for students,” stated a representative of the Principals Association at Bharathiar University.
University officials said that they will ratify the choice.
