Two detained for smuggling 15 tonne of PDS rice at TN | Chennai News


SALEM: Virtually 15 tonne of PDS rice has been captured from the civil provides crime investigation division (CSCID) officials in Salem town on Tuesday. Two men were detained along with a truck was captured.
CSCID officials identified that the detained men as K Karthik, 35, also cleaner N Raguraman,34.
The officers obtained a tip-off regarding the smuggling on Tuesday morning. They had been advised that the rice has been changed from Villupuram into Karnataka through Salem district.
A police officer stated,”We had been on a car test at Seelanaickenpatti.”
The officers intercepted a truck which has been coming from Tirukoilur at Villupuram district. Truck driver Karthik advised the officials that he had been going into Bengaluru with rice bags.
“On assessing the automobile, we discovered PDS rice 300 bags, each bag weighing 50 kg,” an official said.
Authorities captured each of the bags of truck and rice values Rs 10 lakh.
CSCID officials must understand they had been smuggling the rice to Bengaluru.
The detained men were created prior judicial magistrate of Salem district joint court. They had been lodged in Salem Central Prison on Tuesday.
