Criminal contempt proceeding: Madras HC dispenses with look of 3 cops | Madurai News


MADURAI: The Madras high court on Monday dispensed with all the look of three police employees against whom suo motu criminal contempt proceeding were initiated since they had been causing hindrance to the Kovilpatti judicial magistrate whereas the latter was running an inquest in relation to the custodial deaths of P Jeyaraj along with his son J Beniks in Sathankulam.
The Kovilpatti judicial magistrate had filed a report on the HC Madurai seat saying that the policemen were preventing the inquest. The JM had stated the Sathankulam police constable made a disparaging comment in Tamil against him.
dependent on the JM’s report, the HC Madurai seat initiated suo motu criminal contempt event in June, against both police employees – former additional superintendent of police D Kumar, former deputy superintendent of police C Prathapan and constable Maharajan.
Pursuant to the prior direction of the court, the three police employees had filed their answer on Monday.
A division bench of Justices M Sathyanarayanan and P Rajamanickam stated the look of 3 contemnors is dispensed with for now and they will appear before this court as and if demanded.
The case was adjourned to September 7 to additional hearing.
