LUDHIANA: Over 1,000 officials of state excise and tax division including inspector to further commissioner-level have opted to go on indefinite strike from Wednesday.
The officers were on mass casual leave for the previous two days (Monday and Tuesday) to protest the vigilance agency’s (VB) current FIRs and arrests in cases against their colleagues on behalf of corruption.
Because of the lack of those officers of all of the ranks because Monday along with the indefinite attack, there’s high risk of passers (members of gang engaged with illegal movement of products without paying tax) making use of this chance to fleece the authorities and illegal spirits traders also using a free run. Additionally, the functions of tax professionals and payers are held up as no official can be found from the section to solve their problems.
Speaking to TOI on condition of anonymity, a senior officials of this department stated,”the government is confronting enormous revenue loss. Each of the anti-tax evasion and anti-liquor mafia surgeries are jeopardised due to our lack from the offices. But we’re completely helpless and have been made to take the step of moving on indefinite strike and mass casual leave due to the on going situation where our colleagues are being targeted by vigilance agency without appropriate proof. Additionally, till now we’ve no response to our requirements put forward to ministry, chief secretary and other senior officers.”
