JJP pioneer and former MLA, Satvinder Rana
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday granted bail to that the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader and former MLA, Satvinder Rana, who had been detained by Haryana authorities in connection with a situation linked to theft of spirits out of a sealed godown in Panipat district through lockdown.
“Ever since the trial is very likely to have sufficient time to complete and in light of the reality that the petitioner was in custody since May 13 and no recovery is to be effected by the petitioner, no helpful purpose will be served in maintaining the petitioner behind bars. At this phase, without commenting on the merits of this situation, the second petition is permitted and the petitioner is directed to be published on routine bond,” observed the HC.
Justice Jaishree Thakur of the HC has passed these orders while permitting the request filed by Satvinder Rana.
In his request bail, Rana had filed before the HC he was falsely implicated in the current case. “The alleged retrieval was changed in the automobile of co-accused Deepak and the petitioner herein was involved just on the grounds of a disclosure announcement endured by the co-accused. No retrieval is to be effected by the petitioner and conclusion of trial will probably require adequate time,” his counsel had promised.
Though the counselor for Haryana government opposed the grant of standard bail to Rana although maybe not contested that no recovery is to be effected by him and he has been booked at the current case on the grounds of a disclosure announcement endured by the co-accused.
Rana had unsuccessfully contested 2019 state assembly polls on JJP ticket from Kalayat assembly section. Rana, 63, had served as MLA in 1996 and 2005 from Rajaund constituency at Kaithal district.
He had been arrested by the crime branch of Panipat authorities near MLA hostel at sector-3 Chandigarh on May 13. An FIR in regard to the event was enrolled by Samalakha authorities in Panipat district April 28 and Rana’s arrest had been that the results of the lead obtained by the police during investigation of the situation.
The Panipat authorities have arrested six persons including a police constable concerning this situation allegedly for stealing 4,500 instances of spirits out of a sealed godown. Complaint in regard to the situation was created by local excise officials. A case in this connection was filed under section 380 (thieving in construction utilized for custody of land ), 457 (home dividing by night), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) from Panipat authorities. Rana is said to be among the spouses at the godown.
