CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday promised the all-party meeting which the minimum support price (MSP) on foodgrains wouldn’t be removed and made it crystal clear that he wasn’t protecting the central administration’s farm ordinances.
“As far as we’re concerned, our sole interest is whether it’s in the interest of farmers throughout this country or not. There’s absolutely no provision in the ordinance on farmers’ produce and commerce that MSP will finish,” said Sukhbir. He added that if a person studied the dilemma he’d discover that the Punjab authorities had amended the nation APMC Act to implement the terms of the ordinance at August 2017.
Sukhbir encouraged chief minister Amarinder Singh to jointly write to the Union authorities on behalf of political parties in Punjab to receive a clear response as to if there was no truth in the propaganda regarding the so called conclusion to the MSP platform for order of foodgrains. “We are prepared to sign any file searching for a written response to this question. This isn’t all. In Parliament additionally during conversation of this ordinance we’ll insist on a pledge in the central authorities which the MSP and guaranteed advertising system will stay in position,” he further added.
The SAD president advised Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar to not spread disinformation. “When multinationals can do commerce now, why are we resorting to scare tactics by asserting that they’ll capture the whole market as soon as the Union agriculture ministry has clarified that the whole government procurement will happen from mandis. This means there won’t be any gap in earnings collection of about Rs 4,000 crore,” said Sukhbir.
Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma, who attended the all-party assembly, stated there was no mention of any alteration in the MSP of plants in the 3 legislation passed by the Union authorities. He requested the Congress leaders to not issue misleading statements. He said the Union government was dedicated to the evolution of farmers and it’d made legislation in their attention.
