BSF constable two others held by Punjab police in cross border

CHANDIGARH: A BSF constable and others are detained in a cross smuggling racket of weapons and drugs, the Punjab authorities said on Sunday. A . 30 bore, made-in-China pistol and five live cartridges and Rs 24. 50 lakh were recovered in both accused, recognized as Border Security Force Constable Rajendra Prashad and 2 natives, Surmail Singh and Gurjant Singh, said Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta.
The BSF constable, a resident of Ganga Nagar district of Rajasthan, has been posted in a Border Outpost in Chhina village at Taran Tarn district.
Prashad is the next BSF constable detained recently by the Punjab police in a cross-border smuggling racket. The authorities had detained another BSF constable, Sumit Kumar, posted at Sambha at Jammu and Kashmir, in a different cross-border smuggling case.
Giving details of this surgery, Gupta said acting on a tip-off, a Jalandhar Rural police group had on July 26 apprehended two smugglers, who had been arriving from a vehicle from Delhi.
The cops had regained 25 gm of heroin out of them.
On questioning, the duo recognized themselves like Surmail Singh and Gurjant Singh.
Surmail’s additional questioning contributed to the retrieval of this pistol and five live rounds.
During questioning, the duo had revealed that they were working with a cross-border smuggler, Satnam Singh alias Satta, a resident of Taran Tarn district.
Satta was closely connected with Pak-based smugglers from smuggling weapons and heroin from Pakistan.
They also revealed that BSF constable Rajendra Prashad was also included with the smuggling racket.
The DGP stated he contacted his counterparts at the BSF and Rajasthan for the arrest of the BSF constable.
He had been apprehended by the Punjab police on July 28 from his dwelling at Rawala Mandi, in which he had been availing his departure, said the DGP in a statement .
During questioning, the BSF constable disclosed he was roped into the drug smuggling racket by Satnam Singh, who promised him cash for dismissing the smuggling of arms and narcotics consignment throughout his border article.
Then he allowed the group to bring into a consignment of 17 pound of heroin and 2 foreign-made pistols in May.
This time , Satnam Singh, in connivance with Rajendra Prashad, Surmail Singh and Gurjant Singh, was to bring in another consignment of arms and heroin out of his Pakistan-based handlers.
Satnam had supposedly provided Rs 5 lakh and a cellular phone to Prashad beforehand for getting this composite consignment.
The DGP stated from Rs 24.5 lakh, Rs 15 lakh was recovered in the home of Satnam Singh, Rs 5 lakh in the BSF constable and Rs 4.5 lakh in Gurjant Singh.
The authorities were working to acquire the kingpin, Satnam Singh, extradited from Muscat, Oman, where he’d fled after he had been declared proclaimed offender in 2 smuggling cases.
He used a bogus Passport and Aadhar card issued in the name of Gurmeet Singh to escape,” said DGP Gupta.
The accused had five instances of smuggling filed against him sooner.
Satnam Singh’s ill-gotten property, which he’d bought using drug money in the title of his household relative Maninder Kaur in Sandhu Colony Amritsar, was suspended, he added.
