BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday stated Odisha is becoming a significant center of sport activities in the past couple of years while the nation is currently internationally called a hub of baseball.
While introducing the Biju Patnaik Sports Award for outstanding sports coaches and persons on the event of National Sports Day, that had been celebrated through video conferencing, the chief minister remembered his late father and former chief minister Biju Patnaik and stated Biju Babu himself proved to be a fantastic sports person and marketed sports throughout his life.
“We’re presently in the process of realising his dreams of earning Odisha a buzzing center of sport. We’re likely to sponsor still another variant of Hockey World Cup at 2023,” he explained on the event.
Para-athlete Jayanti Behera and celebrity of Indian baseball women group Deep Grace Ekka obtained the Biju Patnaik Sports Award for excellent performance in games and sports. Both of these obtained money award of Rs two lakh each. Young women Purnima Giri and Sabita Giri, who had risked their own lives to rescue 12 men from drowning after a boat catastrophe of Nipania village beneath Mahakalapada block at Kendrapada district, obtained the Biju Patnaik Bravery Award. They get money award of rupees one lakh each, medal and citation.
The ministry on the event also presented awards to a range of sports coaches and persons.
On his government’s commitment to promote sports at Odisha, Naveen stated growth of sport infrastructure and training facilities at grassroots level have been done in an expeditious method.
“Most of the coaches from throughout the planet, have been participated in our high performance centers in a variety of sports disciplines to give top class training. I’m sure that our sports people will continue to excel in domestic and global sports and bring glory to the country in the next several years,” said Naveen.
Stating that the planet is experiencing a fantastic crisis because of this Covid-19 outbreak, the principal minister highlighted the importance of sport and exercise. “We need to further encourage sports to improve the physical and psychological wellbeing of the citizens in the nation. Over the awards, sports and physical fitness activities have to become a means of life within our society,” said Naveen.
