With weekend shutdown continued in Bhubaneswar to inspect the spread of coronavirus, people thronged in massive amounts to the marketplace on Thursday to do last minute shopping and to avoid Friday hurry. “Because of this weekend shutdown, markets are seeing heavy hurry on Fridays. To prevent the rush I chose to get materials necessary for the Ganesh puja on Thursday itself. However, the situation wasn’t any better as there was tremendous rush,” said Manoranjan Udgata, who’s likely to perform Ganesh puja in his property.
Bhubaneswar on Thursday reported 319 positive instances in the past 24 hours of that 172 have been from quarantine and 147 neighborhood contacts. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has advocated shopkeepers to rigorously stick to the Covid-19 guidelines and preserve social distancing from the markets. “We’ve been asking clients to keep space and use masks. However, when a high amount of individuals enter in an open marketplace how do we limit the audience. Individuals are not any more afraid of this virus,” said Ranjan Senapati, a shopkeeper at Unit-1 haat.
Ganesh Chaturthi marks the start of merry season and the festival is celebrated with much fanfare from the country. Beginning from educational institutes to youth clubs, community and offices puja pandals organise Ganesh puja at a grand way.
