UDUPI: Despite being overburdened with work because of Covid-19, when Rajeevi Nayak, 53, an ASHA employee and also an autorickshaw driver, received a call in a pregnant girl in 3. 15 am on Thursday – she simply couldn’t say”No”.
Being a Asha employee, she understood Srilatha, a pregnant girl. Rajeevi told TOI,”As we socialize with elderly ladies, I inform everybody that in the event they create labour pain and have to get rushed to the hospitalthey could call me anytime. Similarly, when Srilatha called me on the phone in about 3. 15am, I asked about her illness and told me that in the event the pain is intense, I’ll arrange for the ambulance. The pregnant woman expressed optimism of travelling into the hospital at an autorickshaw. I was fast to achieve her home and from there we attained the Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother and Child hospital, 20 km from her home and from 12 noon, she delivered a baby girl. I’m delighted to know that the infant and the child do good,” she explained.
Rajeevi aka Asha out of Pernankila continues to be an automobile driver for yesteryear 20 decades and has been providing free rides on pregnant ladies. She’s also a Booth Level officer and when time permits engages in government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
