Prayagraj: Together Haridwar Kumbh 2021 inching nearer, Uttarakhand Police lately searched tips on how audience and traffic management from UP Authorities who was successful in handling Kumbh 2019 at Prayagraj easily and with no mishap.
Uttarakhand police lately encouraged Inspector General, Prayagraj array, K P Singh, who functioned as DIG/SSP Mahakumbh 2019, to look for advice from planning and strategy on audience and traffic management and gain from his expertise.
IG Singh told TOI,”I shared with the plan, steps we’d embraced for audience and traffic management in 2019 Mahakumbh and our expertise using IG (Mela) Sanjay Gunjyal. I counseled them to get a one-way traffic strategy in Haridwar like we did during Mahakumbh.”
Uttrakhand Authorities were advised to not let vehicular movement in the mela site, demarcate markings and supply transportation to pilgrims out there to the mela campus. Devotees and pilgrims must walk into ghats, ashrams, maths and akhara tents.
“We advised them to shuttle shuttle bus support for pilgrims to stop traffic jams and accidents. Prayagraj authorities had plied over 400 shuttle buses to ferry devotees and pilgrims from railway slots into the mela website,” he added.
Sharing his expertise, Singh proposed Uttarakhand Police to handle traffic and audience in Haridwar and redirect them to distinct ghats to prevent chaos.
Throughout 2019 Mahakumbh, Prayagraj Police had diverted crowds towards Phaphamau, Arail, also Jhunsi ghats to stop overcrowding in Sangam. We also proposed keeping multiple entrance and exit points in Mela website, added Singh. The Haridwar mela website has less holding region (area for devotees taking tub on ghats) in comparison to Prayagraj, therefore the IG suggested dividing the region into industries and divert equivalent quantity of devotees for superior audience direction, besides maintaining public holding regions outside mela website to control circulation of visitors along with devotees.
“Haridwar Mela authorities also have been indicated to coordinate with nearby district police for installation of public transportation and private vehicles, aside from organizing cranes and other visitors gear at strategic places,” he explained. Singh also shared the safety regime program with IG Haridwar Kumbh mela Sanjay Gunjyal and safety steps for Shahi Snan days.
The officers discussed specific audience management with attention on Covid protocol to ensure a space of 1.6 metre is preserved between two devotees throughout the mega event. They also discussed the quantity of audience to be permitted entry into the mela website at a time to make sure Covid protocol isn’t violated.
